You and Art Therapy

Sometimes it can be a challenge to find the words to express how we feel. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy where art is the main way of communicating. It may be that the art does most of the ‘talking’ or it could be that your art provides a starting point to get a dialogue going.

You will be invited to explore the feelings you have about yourself and other people close to you - most likely family and friends.  We will look at every-day events and the part you play in them.

We will work together to make connections between the past and the present and how the past can affect how you are feeling, thinking and behaving in the here-and-now.

Sometimes this happens through your own insight, at others, through observations I may offer.

Ultimately, the art therapy sessions are there for you to discover how some of the things that you feel, do and say are not driven by your conscious thoughts and feelings, but by unconscious feelings from your past. When you understand these connections better, you can make choices based on what you want or need now.

Art Therapy for Children & Young People

For some children and young people, expressing how they feel verbally can be a challenge. Children can use art as a means of expression without the pressure to find the words - especially if they are neurodivergent. They can process what is happening for them simply by being in a creative and safe environment. Art therapy can be really supportive when children are dealing with significant life events, for example grief or parental separation.
